Who’s Tiffany Wolf?

I BELIEVE WORDS AND HOW WE USE THEM CAN CHANGE THE WORLD.

My career started in journalism, but quickly diverted to communications where I spent more than a decade working as an in-house communicator before launching Helium Communications in 2018. Over the years I’ve built a skill set that’s a mile wide but waaaaay more than an inch deep, thanks to working with all orders of government, and talking about pensions, advocacy, health, business, and so much more.

My absolute obsession with words and language has set me on a path Little Tiffany never could have imagined, but certainly would be proud of.

WHERE IT STARTED

When I finished university, I just wanted to get paid to write.

My first jobs were as an in-house communicator where I worked for one employer at a time, sometimes as a member of a team and others as the only communicator on staff. I got to dive deep into these organizations and tell stories—to members, to the media, to government officials.

By the time I was into the second decade of my career, I was a better writer who had also developed solid editing chops, learned the ropes of media/public/member relations, and could apply all those skills to amplify messages and push for change. I saw the difference good communication could make when tackling goals big and small!

I also saw that whether there were in-house staff or not, all kinds of organizations could use someone with my skills, even if they didn’t have the budget to hire me full time.

After 12 years, I took a leap of faith…

I wanted to offer my services to more than one organization at a time. With no safety net and no guarantees, I put myself out there and went looking for folks who needed a little extra help.

Along my journey, I’ve attended networking events, made new work besties, been burned by more than one client, and spent years worrying about my bank balance. But I’ve also learned so many new things!

I love getting to ask people about what they do, what they love about their job, and what they want to do next.

CURRENTLY…

From small businesses to non-profits, I get to share my expertise to help them get closer to their goals.

Sometimes I am there at the beginning, helping entrepreneurs get clear about what they want to say and to whom. Sometimes I am the extra set of hands an organization needs to better serve its members. Other times I am helping writers get their manuscript into shape, or teaching people how to build writing skills so they can be better at their non-writer jobs.

But mostly, I am here to help—by asking questions, listening carefully, sharing excitement, creating structure, solving problems, providing a new perspective, and being a second set of eyes.

AS I GAINED WORK EXPERIENCE, I FOUND (AND SHARED!) EXCITEMENT IN TOPICS THAT MIGHT NOT SEEM THRILLING ON THE SURFACE…

I learned about pensions, elections, dental plans, advocacy, insurance, government jurisdictions, retirement planning, wastewater treatment, revenue sharing, and plenty more.

WHAT I DIDN’T KNOW I WOULD LEARN ABOUT WHEN I WENT OUT ON MY OWN…

Decals, design, construction, naturopathy, road trips, bookkeeping, personal training, and the list keeps growing!

MY TOP TIP FOR NEW ENTREPRENEURS…

Always have a contract, and trust your gut when someone seems like bad news!
